For the love of Film

I've been watching a lot of independent movies lately; mainly to stimulate my inner film geek and broaden my horizons. This summer, I've just seen Finding Kate, a softcore movie on Lesbianism and Incest, Ten Minutes, a film that tackles on how much the world can change in just a span of 10 minutes, Starcrossed, a short film on Homosexuality and Incest (Blood brothers, ohmygod), and many many more. These past few weeks, I've learned so much about myself, other people, and Film in general that I honestly feel like I want to pursue a directing career in the future. When I mentioned it to my mother however, she just gave me a dissaproving look and said, "Anak, in order to be successful, you will need to have loads of contacts and know a lot of film producers." It was disheartening to hear that from her, but regardless, Film remains to be on my top three course picks. I know that my mother only wants what's best for me, but I just have this strong feeling that I will only blossom in an art course; Film, to be specific.

Afterall, I've only been rooting for the Arts my entire lifetime.

Throughout my complete gradeschool life, I was in the Arts club. When I came to Highschool, I entered the Computer Club (Yeah. I'm a geek. Fuck you.) because I wanted to enhance my graphic designing skills (Art all the way, baby!). In the next few years, I became (and still am!) a member of the Photography club, because for the love of fresh fuck, I was (and completely still!) in love with Film, and the Arts in general.

I don't think I can ever let go of my love for Film.

Oh screw it. I don't care if I end up as a poor bohemian in the future. At least I know that I'll be happy. And that's all that matters.

Fireworks versus World Hunger

Last night my cousins and I went up their balcony and witnessed a fireworks show. My uncle told me afterwards that it probably costed millions to have run for thirty minutes.

And boom, it hit me.

Each and every New Year's Eve, we spend THOUSANDS, if not, MILLIONS on fireworks alone. If we summed up all of these expenses in the whole entire Earth, it would surely be enough to end world hunger. Heck, we'd probably even have heaps of change to spare.

So I ask you, instead of spending moolah on mindless exploding pyrotechnic devices, go out there and donate to the nearest charity to your home. If you can't do that then at least visit the hunger site by clicking the image below, thus providing donation of 1.1 cups of staple food.

And don't worry, it's absolutely free and clicking the image link takes only about 3-5 seconds of your lifetime.

Do your part. Save lives. End World Hunger.

And I bet that would sure as hell beat thirty minutes of a stupid fireworks display aesthetic entertainment.

Of Flops, Triumphs and Science Fiction

I tried Starbucks' Gingerbread Latte drink and regretted it the very moment it slipped past my throat. It tasted like Carabao piss blended with a six year old's Spaghetti infused vomit, and I am sadly NOT exaggerating. I wanted to try the Toffe Nut Latte drink but it was sold out in the Ayala branch, and from what I hear, almost everywhere else too. And to top it all off, after I finished the damned drink I felt this strange gurgling in my stomach, and yeap, YOU-KNOW-WHAT happened! I practically ran towards the restroom. I think my deposits sized up to a 10-inch Italian sausage.

At least I have my 2007 Starbucks Planner now. Heigh ho-hum.

I need new books. My brain is in need of a mental exercise. If you haven't bought me a Christmas gift yet, well... Here's a list of what I want! Huzzah!

Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes
Ubik by Philip J. Dick
The Dispossed by Ursula Le Guin
The Sirens of Titan by Kurt Vonnegot

That's not all of course. Heehee. But these are definitely on my very top ten wants list.

SCIENCE FICTION > Sliced Bread!

---

Oh by the way, if you're thinking of watching a movie (and we all know that most of the flicks nowadays are for the Metro Manila Film Festival), go and see Ligalig! I know the title sounds like some cheesy Katya Santos porn flick or whatever, but it was by far one of the most impressive Filipino movies I have seen in my lifetime. I literally got goosebumps all over whilst stepping out of the cinema.

If you're into the haunting and borderline psychotic sorta movie then I definitely recommend it for you.

P.S. The steamy sex scene on the first part of the movie spells akwardness when viewed with the parentals, so watch it with your close friends instead.
